The brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon are proud to host the 15th Annual Cajun Cookout Philanthropy. This traditional Cajun crawfish boil took place the evening of Friday, April 8th; from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Our goal is to bring the spirit and flavor of New Orleans to the ΣAE house, all in the name of a good cause. We will provide an all-you-can-eat buffet of oysters, crawfish, and jambalaya, as well as a live band and traditional mullet toss competition. Proceeds from Cajun Cookout will be donated to the University of Florida Collegiate Veterans Society and the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program. The UF Collegiate Veterans Society is an on-campus organization that helps veterans make the transition from military to college life. They are also working to create a veterans memorial on campus and work around the community to support homeless and disabled veterans. In 2008, the Ehren Murburg Scholarship was created and named after a fallen brother who was killed during U.S. Army Special Forces training. The scholarship annually awards a returning veteran with $1,500 to help fund their college education. The Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program supports low-income students who are first in their families to attend college. This program helps talented students attend the University of Florida who might not otherwise attend because of financial barriers
This year we raised $21,000 with nearly one thousand people in attendance, and hope to improve upon these numbers next year. We are also proud to have been honored by The Interfraternity Council as the Philanthropy of the Year in 2009 and continue to be one of the top fundraising philanthropies each year at the University of Florida.
